A staff union at the National Audubon Society is warning of “alarming pay disparities” in a new analysis of employee compensation.
The conservation group’s union Wednesday released a report about employee pay, saying it found “systemic disparities based on gender and race among employees represented by Audubon’s staff union.”
In its analysis, the Bird Union, represented by the Communications Workers of America, found that “women are paid significantly less than their male counterparts” and that Black, Indigenous and other people of color “are paid less than their white counterparts, and are significantly underrepresented in the organization.”
The analysis comes as Audubon’s management and staff union have been locked in contentious negotiations over their first collective bargaining agreement.
