Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance hammered a planned electric vehicle battery plant in a small Michigan town on Tuesday as he ramped up attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats’ climate law.

The planned facility, owned by a U.S. subsidiary of a China-based company, has emerged as a key part of the GOP’s argument that the Inflation Reduction Act is benefiting China — even as the law is spurring new investments in U.S. manufacturing.

“The Democrats are helping China destroy and replace our auto industry from the inside out, and we’re going to stop it,” Vance said, pointing to the planned Gotion factory in Green Charter Township, Michigan.
