Senate committee to vote on NOAA nominee, roster of bills

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will consider legislation on oceans, heat and lithium batteries.

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will consider dozens of bills, including proposals related to fisheries, record heat and lithium ion batteries.

Also on the agenda is Chad Cary to be director of NOAA’s Commissioned Officer Corps and the agency’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations. He is currently deputy director.

When it comes to legislation, the committee will take up S. 2645, the “Preventing HEAT Illness and Death Act,” from Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).

The bill would enable NOAA to establish the National Integrated Heat Health Information System Interagency Committee with the goal of preparing for extreme heat conditions.
