JOEL KIRKLAND

Joel helped launch Energywire in 2012 and served as that publication’s deputy editor before taking charge of E&E News’ enterprise projects. He has worked as a business reporter for Climatewire and was an energy policy reporter for Platts. He’s won awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for coverage of the shale gas boom. The Overseas Press Club in 2011 recognized his reporting on China’s hunt for energy and U.S.-China relations. He started his journalism career at Little Rock’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Later, he spent two years as a reporter and editor for the Prague Business Journal in the Czech Republic. A Chicago-area native, he holds dual degrees in history and journalism from the University of Missouri.
